DOG
SPORTS

Georgia Dog Gym provides dog sport coaching for all levels of dogs and handlers. Through our dog sport workshops, you can experience many of the varieties of dog sports as well as basic foundation conditioning programs for canine athletes.

To get the most out of these workshops, your canine athlete should know some basics such as sit, down, & stay. Your dog will be happiest at a workshop if he/she is comfortable in the company of other dogs and people.

After you have paid for a workshop, your instructor will send an email to you to let you know what to bring along, usually a leash, training treats, and a toy.

Collection, Balance, & Core Strength

Saturday, February 10th

10am to 1pm

Collection, Balance, & Core strength are essential in every dog sport, but especially disc, dock jumping, and agility. Get on top of your game by helping your dog become a better athlete. Dogs may be strong through training your specific sport, but they improve considerably when they receive training that specifically targets collection, balance, and core strength and the risk of injury will be significantly reduced. Play is safer when your dog is strong and understands how to use his body correctly.

Introduction to Shed Hunting

Saturday, February 3rd

10am to 1pm

Cost: $75

A “Shed” is an antler that a deer or elk or other antlered animal has discarded on the ground in order to grow the next season’s set of antlers. Sheds from Whitetail Deer can be found throughout the wooded forests of Georgia especially in late winter and early Spring. Dogs can be trained to find and retrieve sheds for us based on the sight and scent of the shed. This is a fun activity during hikes in the forest and sheds can be great chew toys for dogs, or can be collected to make all sorts of furnishings and art. Cyndy Douan will get you and your dogs started on training techniques used to teach shed hunting.
